Independent school magic
The life of a consultant is far from glamorous.
There are early morning flights and meals consumed quickly in unconventional places.
But occasionally you get a moment to yourself.
Yesterday was one of them.
I carved out some time to visit the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum while I’m in Santa Fe for an Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS) conference.
I was first introduced to Georgia O’Keeffe’s work and life while I was a student at the Westover School.
To my delight, I rediscovered the painting that I loved as a teenager.
But then I came across another piece.
One that O’Keeffe had completed as a teenager when she was a student in her own girls’ boarding school- Chatham Episcopal Institute, now Chatham Hall.
The description next to the painting highlighted that Chatham Hall was “where she was encouraged to pursue her interest in the arts.”
Some adult there saw her as who she was meant to be.
An artist.
They believed, supported, and encouraged her.
This is the power of education.
And the magic of independent schools.
Aren’t we lucky that we have adults in our schools who have the ability to unlock talents and propel students toward their true potential?
