Shared goals

A question I am often asked:

How do I motivate my team to achieve shared goals?

Here are the questions I ask when working with a client and their team:

1. Are the goals and expectations of the team clearly articulated?

2. Do team members have the autonomy to take ownership of the work and make decisions?

3. How are the achievements of the team acknowledged?

4. Is collaboration encouraged outside of meetings?

5. Are opportunities for professional growth and development provided beyond traditional conferences?

6. Do you model the behaviors and values that you want to see in your team?

The question that is usually hardest to answer:

The first one.

You cannot achieve shared goals if they haven’t been clearly defined.

That’s where the work begins.
