Don’t just patch
Most leaders mistake symptoms of leadership issues as the root of the problem.
I thought about this yesterday afternoon I watched the highway department fill in potholes on my street for the second time in 2023.
The road has been a problem for years.
And here we are still patching and not getting at the real need.
Just like patching up potholes without addressing the underlying causes won't result in a lasting solution, merely addressing symptoms of leadership issues won't lead to sustainable change.
Imagine if the highway department spent time fixing the underlying road structure, investing in a solution that lasts.
That's the same approach we should take when it comes to leadership.
Instead of merely addressing high employee turnover, lack of engagement, or communication issues, it's crucial to dig deeper and tackle the underlying root causes, such as culture issues, weak organizational structure, or lack of leadership skills.
It may take more time upfront, but it pays off in the long run.
Just like a road that's structurally sound can withstand the test of time, addressing the root cause of leadership challenges can create a strong foundation for sustained success.
You need to go beyond patching up the surface-level issues.
Prioritize investing in long-term solutions, rather than quick fixes.
By addressing the root cause of leadership issues, you can drive meaningful and lasting positive change in your organization, creating an environment where both people and your school can thrive.
